Category:

Translation memory

Description:

bitext2tmx is an open source programm to segment and align corresponding translated senteces (of a source document and its translation, both in plain text format) and generate a TMX file from the results for use in CAT tools such as SDL Trados Studio. The corresponding sentences used are currently read in from two plain files.

Comment:

bitext2tmx is a fast and stable program and a good replacement for the alignment tool in SDL Trados Studio. The application is not installed, just extract the download file into a directory of your choice and click on the *.jar file to start it. bitext2tmx is a Java application, so it requires Java in order to work on supported operating systems (Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, Windows).

Comment:

Nice open source tool with functions SDL Trados Studio does not provide. Since it is open source, the code can be reused in your own programming projects.

Translation memory

Description:

Olifant is a .NET application that allows you to load or import translation memories in different formats (such as TMX or tab-delimited). You can edit the translation units, their attributes and any other associated data. Olifant allows you to save or export your data in various formats. The tool provide a table-driven interface to easily navigate through the translation memory. It offers functions such as flagging duplicates, search and replacing text using regular expressions, filtering the entries based on various criteria, merging other TMs into an existing one, exporting part of the TM, and many other utilities.

Comment:

Very useful tool for translation memory maintenance with functions not offered by SDL Trados Studio. Unfortunately, the tool is from 2009 and will not be further developed. It has a tendency to delete metadata where there are multiple-value fields.

Category:

Translation management, Translation memory

Description:

Free plugin for Trados Studio which splits sdlxliff files into its pieces and allows interaction with all its components. It allows users to carry out various functions based on the status of the segments, e.g. to select segments from a single file, several files or a complete project and create a new sdlxliff file containing only the results of the selection. For all functions, users can decide what segments get used based on a natural search query, regular expressions or by searching in the tags. Additionally, the user can set up search and replace patterns and then preview the result before making the replacement.

Comment:

Very helpful, especially if you have to translate only a few segments in very large files.

Translation management, Translation memory

Description:

Free plugin for Trados Studio that protects sensitive personal information during the translation process. It enables the user to control how sensitive data is managed. By using plain text or regular expressions, data in translation projects and translation memories can be pseudonymised or anonymised. This helps to maintain the benefits of using a translation tool by knowing who has translated what piece of work, without exposing this personal information to unauthorised parties. The plug-in can help to meet obligations in relation to legal requirements, such as those set out in the GDPR.

Comment:

A very useful tool. It is run from the Batch Tasks in Trados Studio. Information in the source and target segments can be anonymised and later restored if necessary. The anonymised parts of a segment are converted to tags. During editing, the anonymised content is still visible on mouseover, but it is not stored in the TM. The tags are then given a simple number ID in the TM. The plugin also anonymises system fields and TM attributes.
